Lauren H. Concentration
My essential question was "How do musical performers convey energy to their audiences?" I wanted to encapsulate the feelings displayed during live performances through my art. This includes their body movement, the stage, and musical instruments. Music carries emotion sonically, but I wanted to show that its power can also be demonstrated visually as well. I began my concentrations with conventional digital photos of musical acts, then progressed into creative representations of the same principle. Much of my works stem from photography, but I began to venture into other mediums towards the end of the course. Image 7 features a wax encaustic painting in which the subject is pictured in a basement playing the guitar. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and approach a medium I was not familiar with. Images 9-12 are part of my four piece series inspired by modern artist Roy Lichtenstein. I drew the images digitally from my own photographs and turned them into comic book-like pieces by using primary colors and ben-day dots. My intent was to create works that epitomize the beauty of music production and performance through various styles and mediums.
