Anna M. Concentration
As a child I taught myself to embrace my fears so I would no longer be afraid of them. There are classic things everyone is scared and disgusted by, gore seems to be the most common though. Over the years I’ve come to find out that most people are scared of a couple things; blood, body parts, decaying things, certain living creatures, and illnesses. With my art I’m trying to force others to embrace what scares them and disgusts them just like I have been doing since I was a kid.
In my concentration pieces I focus on one thing that might scare or disgust someone and then try to artistically expose the viewer to that thing. It’s not always necessarily in an extremely direct and horrible way either, for example in the photograph of the skeleton doll I painted as my concentration 2, some people are afraid of skeletons and making one into a doll helps show the nicer side of that fear. On the complete other end of the spectrum I was very direct and intense with trying to expose the viewer like in my concentration number 3 by using a real pig heart in a photograph. Although everyone has their own fears and interests my art will still convey the aspect of fear.
