Frances S. Concentration
The concentration that I chose to focus on this year was twins. I am a twin myself which made choosing this topic easy. Being a twin is an incredible experience and my goal was to show that feeling through art. I focused on many different ideas regarding twins such as mirrored twins, twins of nature, and twins through greek mythology. This concentration was difficult to deal with at times but I learned a lot about myself and twins in general.
My work contains many different mediums that all have a unique way of tying in twins. The Greek twins, Apollo and Artemis, inspired the two Greek mythology works that I did. The two works that focus on Greek mythology are pieces #7 and #10. #7 represents the Gemini twins in mythological times when Castores was killed and Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together. My work consists of many abstract pieces of the cells as the twins grow together. Pieces numbers 2,3,6 and 9 all have to do with the cell structures. I also focused on mirrored twins in one of my pieces. Mirrored twins are twins that have everything opposite of the other. My silk scarf, number 8 is symmetrical and each object on the opposite side are colors opposite on the color wheel. For example, one face is red and the other is purple, which are opposite colors on the color wheel.
