Anna F. Concentration
I chose to concentrate on the idea of isolation. Through this concentration I hoped to explore the reasons as to why and how humans isolate themselves. I chose to concentrate on isolation because of the growing awareness of teens with depression in America and the world. By concentrating on this idea, I can create a portfolio that demonstrates a common, share emotion; and one that I experience personally.
Many of my concentration pieces use facial expression and body position to express isolation and loneliness. From big eyes to unidentifiable faces, I use the human body to evoke emotions of empathy from the viewer. I chose this focus with the knowledge that each individual fights their own battles and somewhere in every viewer is a piece of them that can resonate with the feeling of isolation. By pairing detailed drawings of bodies with heads that are in someway incomplete, I represent isolation as a state of mind. Visual representations of the ways our brains limit us socially, is an idea I wanted to focus greatly on. With scribbles, drips and warped lines I attempt to demonstrate the natural balance of elegance on the outside and the madness inside. I feel this is best represented in images 4, 9, and 11. Through my artwork I was able to put pieces of myself into finished art that I hope reach out and resonate with viewers.
